The mechanics of the ASCCP Residents Online Examination are as follows:
- The Program Director must make a short formal request in writing, by fax or by email, identifying themselves and their program, and requesting registration for their program.
- The Program Director will receive a password from the ASCCP office. Using the password, the Program Director should log onto the ASCCP website (see button below) and register the appropriate resident information, such as the names and PGY level of the residents set to take the examination. In addition, the Program Director will be asked to answer a few questions describing their colposcopy curriculum and the volume of clinical material their residents see during their training.
- After receipt of the examination fees, the ASCCP will furnish the Program Director with an individual password for each resident taking the exam online. Upon receipt of the passwords, the residents are free to take the exam.
Each resident will be able to take the exam one time annually and must complete it at one sitting. Before taking the exam, the resident will answer a few questions describing their colposcopy learning experience, similar to those questions asked of the Program Director. The resident will then take the exam. ASCCP will then score the exam and provide feedback to the Program Director on how his residents performed on the multiple-choice section (that tests cognitive skills in colposcopy) and the image-based exam (that tests pattern recognition skills). The data will be provided as a percentile score, comparing the individual residents score to other residents scores across the country and to all residents at that specific level of training (similar to the scoring of the CREOG exam).
