Would you like to contribute to the development of risk based management guidelines?
The implementation of HPV vaccination and evolving use of HPV testing and cytology in cervical cancer screening has the potential to drastically reduce the number of cervical cancers, and many exciting changes are on the horizon. ASCCP is currently embarking on the process of revising the 2012 management guidelines. The goals of the new guidelines are to introduce a risk-based paradigm that takes vaccination status, past history of high grade cervical precancer, and recent and current HPV and cytology results to calculate a woman’s current risk of precancer (CIN2/3) and recommend the next clinical action that should be taken (e.g. repeat testing, colposcopy, treatment).
We are currently creating working groups that will review data on multiple aspects of care, and then suggest risk-based clinical action recommendations that will be discussed and voted on at a consensus meeting. After consensus has been achieved, technology will be created to support clinician use of the guidelines, including an updated version of the current ASCCP app. We are looking for volunteers for this process. The time commitment is approximately 1-3 hours per week, including 1 monthly conference call between June 2018 and April 2019. Please keep reading if this sounds interesting to you.
The working groups include 3 clinical action threshold groups (charged with defining a risk that would prompt a specific clinical action (Treatment, Colposcopy, and Surveillance). In addition, there are 3 support groups (Risk Modification, New Technologies, and Communication and Implementation group). The Risk Modification group will help determine what clinical and lab data can be used to alter risk thresholds. The New Technology group will evaluate new technologies to determine when they may be incorporated in the risk calculation. The Communication and Implementation will be addressing the communication plans for health care providers and the lay public.
If you are interested in volunteering to work in one of these groups, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org including your CV, any prior ASCCP or national organization activities, and a brief statement telling us which group(s) you are interested in and why you think you would be a good fit for the group(s). The deadline to submit your interest and corresponding documents is Thursday, May 17.
