Program Purpose

Welcome to the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology's (ASCCP) Online CME Series. This interactive media program was designed by ASCCP to provide timely, evidence-based information to address the pressing issues in the screening and management of lower genital tract disease facing physicians and other licensed healthcare providers today.

Is this educational activity right for me?

The target audience is all licensed clinicians who interpret the results of cervical cancer screening tests and those who diagnose, observe, and treat preinvasive disease. The ASCCP Online CME Series has been developed for the gynecologist, family physician, gynecologic oncologist, advanced practice clinician (e.g., NP, CNM, and PA-C), pathologist, pediatrician, and resident working with women and adolescents. These online learning activities will also be relevant to those gynecologists, family physicians, and pathologists who supervise residents and fellows, and for physicians with administrative responsibility for patients.

Learner Participation

Each lecture features a PowerPoint lecture containing cytologic, colposcopic, and histologic images, as well as scrolling text and audio accompaniments, thumbnails and search functions. Each lecture takes approximately 1 hour to complete, however, participants may proceed through the lectures at their own pace, with the program allowing the user to bookmark a lecture and return at a later time. Each course includes a short self-assessment CME pre- and post-test composed of multiple choice clinical questions and case study questions, as well as a course evaluation survey. Upon completion of the CME post-test (min. 70% pass rate) and evaluation survey, the participant will then be able to claim up to one 1 continuing medical education credit (Category 1) for each lecture. Participation in the ASCCP Online CME Series and receipt of CME credit is free.

The American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ASCCP) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Continuing Medical Education Credits

The American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology designates this enduring material for a maximum of 2 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Professional Performance Gaps and Competencies

As part of its overall CME assessment, planning, and evaluation processes, ASCCP undertakes regular reviews of national, international, and internal learner data to determine the professional performance gaps experienced by its members. We then identify those medical knowledge, practice-based learning, patient care, systems-based practice, and interpersonal communication needs that are to be incorporated into our educational activities. The Online CME Series has been developed specifically to address the following provider needs:

1. improve understanding of abnormal cervical cancer screening tests and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN)/adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS), including colposcopic image recognition and individualization of generalized management guidelines for specific cases;
2. increase understanding as to the epidemiology, natural history, and immune response of HPV;
3. apply management guidelines to women from special populations with different risks and potential harms from treatment;
4. gain an understanding of HPV vaccine benefits, side effects, cost effectiveness, societal impacts, risks and indications for vaccination and to increase one’s ability to communicate these issues to patients, their family members, and colleagues; and,
5. improve knowledge of vulvar diseases and gain skills in the visual recognition, diagnostic evaluation, and management of vulvar disorders.
