Diane Solomon, MD is a Senior Investigator at the National Cancer Institute. She was instrumental in the development and evolution of the Bethesda System for communicating the results of cervical cytology. Dr. Solomon co-directed the National Cancer Institute (NCI) ASCUS and LSIL Triage Study (ALTS) of over 5,000 women to determine the optimal management of equivocal and mildly abnormal Pap tests. The results of ALTS have informed the development of ASCCP consensus guidelines for management of women with abnormal cytology results and CIN. Currently, Dr. Solomon is working with a team conducting an NCI sponsored clinical trial of a prophylactic HPV vaccine in Costa Rica. She has authored or co-authored over 100 publications in peer review journals in the area of cervical cancer screening, detection and prevention.
